‘Killer kids’ intent on murder - Brianna Ghey: Teen Murderers Unmasked | Brianna Ghey documentary

As the teenage killers of Brianna Ghey are unmasked as Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe, this powerful documentary from the Mail explores what drove two young people from seemingly stable backgrounds to commit such a shocking murder.

In the film, Mail investigative journalist Tom Rawstorne discovers that the pair drew up a 'kill list' of 5 children they wanted to murder, before launching their brutal and savage knife attack on Brianna, who believed them to be her friends. He hears from criminal psychologist, Kerry Daynes, how visiting horrific 'red rooms' on the Dark Web will have 'traumatised their psyche' and inspired the chilling 'murder plan' they drew up together.

Mail reporter, Liz Hull, who covered the trial of Brianna's murderers in the Mail podcast, The Trial: Brianna Ghey, gives an insight into their backgrounds, their personalities and what led to them becoming bonded forever by an overwhelming desire to kill.

The teenagers who murdered 16-year-old Brianna Ghey were jailed until they "no longer present a danger" to the public.

Scarlett Jenkinson and Eddie Ratcliffe were aged 15 when lured their transgender victim to a park in Culcheth, near Warrington, Cheshire, in February 2023.

Anxious and vulnerable Brianna was stabbed 28 times in the head, neck, chest and back in a "frenzied and ferocious" attack with a hunting knife.

The killers denied murder and blamed each other for the attack on Brianna, which was described as "horrific" by detectives, but were convicted following a trial.

Reporting restrictions protecting the identities of the pair, who had since turned 16, were lifted during a sentencing hearing at Manchester Crown Court.

Both were sentenced to be detained at His Majesty's pleasure - the juvenile equivalent of a life sentence - with Jenkinson to serve a minimum term of 22 years and Ratcliffe 20 years.

They will be transferred to adult prisons when they turn 18.

The judge, Mrs Justice Yip, told them the terms were "lengthy for offenders of your age, albeit significantly less than an equivalent sentence for an adult".

But she added: "How long you will actually serve will not be decided today.

"You will only be released if in the future it is decided that you no longer present a danger - that decision will be for the parole board.

"If you remain a danger you will serve very much longer than the minimum term and may never be released."

The sentences were handed down with the "hope" - "if not the expectation" - that the killers could be rehabilitated in the future, due to their young age, she added.

The judge's sentencing remarks can be read in full at: https://www.judiciary.uk/judgm....ents/r-v-scarlett-je

The explosion and loss of life that day marked an abrupt end to the Golden Age of airship travel. The airship was the pride of Nazi Germany and burst into flames upon touching its mooring mast, in Lakehurst New Jersey. 35 passengers and crew members were killed, of 97 people aboard. Yet three-quarters of a century later, there is still no clear answer as to how the incident occurred.

Due to the scale and volume of the Hindenberg – along with the intricacies of its design no one has ever been able to provide a satisfactory explanation of how or why the disaster occurred, until now. We debate sabotage, mechanics, weather, and even passengers themselves.
